Moving to Arlington for Sports

If you are a sports fanatic, this is the place to be. Football is certainly part of Texas’ legacy, but especially in Arlington.  Arlington TX houses the most modern and impressive stadium belonging to the NFL, the 1.3 billion-dollar Dallas Cowboys stadium.  Maybe football just isn’t your cup of tea, then how about the best basketball team in North America?  Close to Arlington are the Dallas Mavericks, who are the 2011 NBA champions. Arlington has several different universities, the largest and most prestigious is The University of Texas at Arlington (UTA), but others include the Southeast Campus of Tarrant County College, and Arlington Baptist College. Others with a presence in Arlington include The University of Phoenix and Texas Tech University.

The University of Texas at Arlington is the second largest institution of the University of Texas System. The university has a current enrollment of 32,956 students as of Fall 2010.  These educational institutions actually house some of the oldest buildings in the greater Forth Worth area.  The University no longer has a football program, but it does host high school sports on the football field.

Many people move to Arlington for their education, for example the city is host of University of Texas at Arlington, which hosts over 30,000 graduates and undergraduates. Most states don’t boast a university with that kind of enrollment.

Arlington has a humid subtropical climate, temperatures rise well over 100 °F (38 °C) at times and heat-humidity indexes soaring to as high as 117 °F (47 °C). Arlington Texas is often times the hottest area in the United States in the summer, behind just a few places like the Mojave Desert, southeastern California.

Winters in Arlington are generally mild… a high of 63 °F and a low of 36 °F would thus be a very typical one during the winter. Sometimes weather can plummet below30 °F for up to a few days at a time and keeping daytime highs in a struggle to surpass 40 °F (4 °C). Snow accumulation is usually seen in the city at least once every winter, and snowfall generally occurs 2–3 days out of the year for an annual average of 2.5 inches.

Spring and autumn are pleasant. Bright wildflowers bloom in spring and are planted around the highways throughout Texas. Arlington is also generally pleasant from late September to early December and on many winter days, but unlike in the springtime, major storms rarely form in the area.
